Whether your in the Finnish Sauna or the Steam Sauna - a man always breaks a sweat in here!

Medically infused aromatic steam, (that smells terrific, by the way) and nice sweat buddies - what more could a man want?!

A Proper Sweat!

There's a few things that you should know about your body, before you sweat. Your body has according to size and weight only 5 – 7 liters. No more! Your blood transports oxygen to the rest of your body by way of your vascular system. Of course the entire amount of your blood isn't always evenly distributed throughout your body. The brain controls where your blood needs to be.

Let's imagine that someone eats a big meal of french fries and schnitzel. Your stomach and digestive track needs blood to digest your food. So your brain tells your lungs, liver, muscles and skin to deliver blood to your stomach and intestines. They must work now! But if you go into the sauna after you have eaten a lot, your brain can't decide where it needs to send blood to. Should it attend to the digestion process or defend itself against the heat? When in doubt, the brain will give up its own supply to help out. The result: You will become unconscious (in other words you will faint)!!! Never sweat with a full stomach or stay too long in the sauna for that matter!!

Another precaution: If the soccer trainer lets a replacement player run slowly around the length of the field, then the leg muscles of the player have to work a lot. The muscles call for blood. The process of the blood redistribution takes a couple of minutes. If the player doesn't properly warm-up beforehand, the lack of blood supply to his skeletal muscles could lead to the tearing of muscle fibers. Many sport injuries are caused by a lack of this knowledge.

What does that have to do with the sauna?

If you go into the sauna, you enter into a room, that can be hot until 95°. In other words, a heat that does not occur in nature. To defend itself from the heat, the body reacts as follows: large quantities of blood (sent out from the lungs, liver, stomach, intestines, etc.) is transferred to the skin and muscular system – as a coolant, so to speak. Simultaneously the body forces water out of the sweat glands. You sweat and the sweat evaporates to cool you off. Your heart beats faster to pump more blood outward. More blood means more oxygen. At the same time, your muscular system and your skin are furnished with plenty of oxygen. This is very good for your skin! Just a once a week visit in the sauna can do wonders for your skin, not to mention your immune system (fewer colds)!

If you sweat properly, you have reached your goal. You don't have to sit long in the sauna to get the benefits! Remain only as long as you feel comfortable – too long can be dangerous!

After your time in the sauna, you should shower with warm water to rinse the sweat off and then go outside to the yard. Breathe in the fresh air, your muscles and skin will thank you! After around 5 minutes, you should take a cold shower and then enter the cold basin. You will notice a wonderful, tingling feeling over your entire body. Through the cold air, your blood flow returns to normal.

A wonderful, exhilerating experience!

Your body has worked hard, and afterward needs to relax. Wait a while before reentering the sauna. If you have any questions about the sauna, please feel free to ask us. Most of our guests also have a good knowledge about the sauna. One of our guests is 89 years old, and he enjoys the sauna as much as ever!

In the Finnish/Dry Sauna, the humidity is only 10-20%, therefore you can only bear the heat for a short time. Whereas the steam sauna has 100% humidity and a temperature of 39-45°. With a temperature of 45° or more, the atmosphere becomes very hot and for many intolerable.

Enjoy the sauna as much as you like, but don't make it a marathon! Allow a half an hour to an hour after eating or drinking alcohol before entering the sauna. Your body will thank you!

After the sauna: Now is the perfect time to get a massage. All of the tension in your body will be released, and soreness in your body will be relieved. You will feel like a new person!

I am a trained masseur, and have worked as a masseur for over 18 Years in the Sauna Vulcano. Unfortunately, I can no longer give massages due to my current health, but our new masseur is a very qualified, state approved physical therapist with a lot of expierence. Your in good hands with him! v Our sauna is and always has emphasized a healthy lifestyle, and a wonderful place to meet gay men!
